How to perform reverse image in Provisioning Services.

Objective

The reverse image process is needed when it is necessary to upgrade the hypervisor tools or the Provisioning Services Target Device software version. This article is explains the steps for the process of reverse image in?? Provisioning Services.

Instructions

To perform reverse imaging, complete the following steps:

  1. If you are using versioning create a new maintenance version to connect to from a target device otherwise?? make a copy of the vDisk (.vhd file) you want to reverse.??
  2. Assign a Target Device?? to boot from the vDisk copy?? (in private or maintenance version) you want to reverse image with additional disk attached (same size or larger than the vDisk).

  3. Boot the target device from the network so it can connect to the vDisk.

  4. Ensure the new disk attached?? is visible in Windows Disk Management and?? mounted as a drive (D:\).

  5. Format this disk?? as NTFS,?? ?? Master Boot Record and?? make sure?? is set to Active in Windows Disk Management.

  6. Use P2PVS (XenConvert) or?? BNImage ?? to copy the vDisk to the added disk?? (both tools are located under C:\Program Files\Citrix\Provisioning Services).

  7. If using P2PVS ?? select Volume to Volume conversion.??

  8. Select the Source Volume as the C drive (vDisk) and the Destination Volume as the attached disk.

  9. Boot the device to Hard Disk?? by manually changing the boot order in BIOS.

  10. Uninstall Provisioning Services?? Target Device?? target device software and reboot.

  11. Uninstall?? Virtual Delivery Agent software and reboot.

  12. Uninstall?? any antivirus software and reboot.

  13. Update?? hypervisor tools if necessary and reboot.

  14. Install?? antivirus software.

  15. Install new version of?? Provisioning Services?? Target Device software and reboot.

  16. Run the Provisioning Services Imaging Wizard tool from Start menu to capture back the vDisk into the Provisioning Services store?? (System will reboot automatically and will continue to finish the conversion process). Before reboot, change the boot order in BIOS to network boot.

  17. Switch the target device to boot from the vDisk (in Private mode)?? in the Provisioning Services?? console.

  18. Install Virtual Delivery Agent?? software.
