This article talks about configuring your NetScalers in an HA pair and the possibilities of an issue when best practices are not followed.

Information

This article contains information about configuring NetScaler in a High Availability (HA) pair and the possibilities of an issue when best practices are not followed.??

To set up a NetScaler in HA configuration, refer CTX116748 - How to Set Up a High Availability Pair with Access Gateway Enterprise Edition.

Citrix recommends that unused interfaces to be disabled or turned off HA monitoring on those interfaces as mentioned in Citrix eDocs for setting up High Availability.

Issues Occur when Best Practices are Not followed

Here is what could happen when unused interfaces are enabled??and HA monitoring is turned On??for those interfaces.

  1. As you can see, "node A" has and IP address of "7.10.116.1"??and??"node B" has an IP address of "7.10.116.10".

  2. All the interfaces are enabled on both nodes.

  3. HA MON is enabled on all interfaces on both nodes.

  4. The only interface that is being used and in an "Enabled UP" state is interface "0/1".

The end result: node A??and node B??are in HA as Secondary??nodes:

(node B)

Solution

Disable all interfaces that is not being used and turn HA monitoring Off on those interfaces.??Interface "0/1" parameters need not be changed as it is the only interface being used in this setup.
